Five Tips for the Average Millennial

1. Meal prep and plan ahead-

This way you won’t have to worry about deciding what to eat when you have limited time. Using the guiding principle of plate make up or the Caribbean 6 food groups, it’s important to include a variety of nutrients. The beauty of meal planning is it is an activity that exists on a continuum. It definitely does not mean ‘eat the same thing 5 days in a row’ especially if that journey does not excite you. If you decide to prep 2 proteins, 2 carbs and veggies 2 ways you can mix and match for the majority of the week. For example, if I have beef tacos for dinner on Monday night, I can use the remaining minced meat to pair with spaghetti and a simple green salad for lunch on Tuesday.

2. Use a variety of fruits and vegetables-

Incorporating a variety of fruits and vegetables into your meals is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy diet. From the moment you wake up, consider how you can add these foods to your plate. You might opt for a smoothie or a fruit salad in the morning, and sneak some veggies into your sauces and soups throughout the day. By evening time, if you manage to add at least three vegetables to your dish of choice, you're doing an amazing job for your body. Your skin and gut will thank you, and you'll be glowing from the inside out with a diverse universe of good bacteria patrolling your GI tract.

3. Remember all carbs aren’t created equal-

Complex carbs like oats and provision keep us fuller for longer and are a great source of fibre and nutrients to energise us throughout the day. Small changes can make a big impact over time on your overall health and wellness and it can allow you to meet your health and wellness goals holistically, while still enjoying the life you choose.

4. Limit the sugary drinks-

Nothing is wrong with sweet of course, but an unlimited amount of added sugar can become problematic. Even if you have some of these drinks to quench your thirst, you almost always end up having to drink water afterwards anyway, am I right? Having sugary drinks make up the majority of what you intake can also lead to the onset of non-communicable diseases like diabetes. ‘Once in a while, but not plenty’ can be the rule of thumb applied in this instance.

5. Stay hydrated-

If you don’t enjoy drinking water try making it a game with a cute bottle or even eat your water instead. Sometimes it really is the simple things. An exciting vesicle can trick your mind into prioritising drinking water throughout the day. It’s like a little game or challenge for yourself, especially depending on your activity level. A general rule of thumb is not waiting until you are absolutely parched to realise you should have some h2o. And if that doesn’t help, including foods like tomatoes, cucumbers and watermelon can really help out your case. It’ll change your life- literally. These days, the heat has had an extra heat of its own! It is almost unbearable at this point. So, hydration is key!
